Mª Carmen Gómez Cabrera

La Dra. Gómez Cabrera cursa sus estudios de Ciencias del Deporte en la Universitat de València donde se licencia en 1998 obteniendo el premio extraordinario de licenciatura. Se doctora en el Departamento de Fisiología de la Universidad de Valencia en el 2003 y obtiene el premio extraordinario de doctorado.

Ha realizado 3 estancias en centros extranjero (University of Southern California, University of Wisconsin, University of Liverpool) en grupos de investigación vinculados al estudio del músculo esquelético, los radicales libres y el ejercicio físico.

Su labor docente se inició en el año 2000 y actualmente es profesora titular del Departamento de Fisiología de la Universitat de València.

Sus investigaciones abarcan el estrés oxidativo asociado al ejercicio físico y el papel señalizador de las especies reactivas de oxígeno en el músculo esquelético. Cuenta con más de 65 publicaciones científicas, es colaboradora habitual de revistas internacionales de prestigio y ha dirigido 11 tesis doctorales. El número total de citas recibidas en sus trabajos es 1655,  su media de citas por trabajo 26.7,  y su índice h es 18.  Ha participado en 17 proyectos de investigación nacionales (4 de ellos como Investigador Principal)  y en 2 proyectos de investigación europeos.  

El reconocimiento a su labor investigadora se ha traducido en premios de investigación como el Catherine Pasquier Award (concedido por la Society for Free Radical Research Europe ) y el premio Medalla García Blanco. 

 

El objetivo principal de esta investigación es estudiar los efectos beneficiosos de la actividad física en la prevención y el tratamiento de varias patologías y más específicamente en la enfermedad de Alzheimer, la sarcopenia senil y la fragilidad. También estamos interesados ​​en el estudio de las bases moleculares de la atrofia del músculo esquelético durante los períodos de inmovilización, así como en su prevención.

The main aim of this research is to study the beneficial effects of physical activity in prevention and treatment of several pathologies and more specifically on Alzheimer’s disease, senile sarcopenia and frailty. We are also interested in the study of the molecular bases of skeletal muscle atrophy during periods of immobilization, as well as in its prevention.
